BREAKING: Google Analytics 4 is here for Shopify 🤩

All native. 100% plug-and-play. No coding. It's so easy! I literally just set it up.

Here's how to do it, step-by-step (it's easy).

Step 1: Create a Google Analytics 4 property.

  1. Open GA, go to Admin and click "Create Property"
  2. Give your new property a name. Example: Insert URL - GA4
  3. Next, fill out info, create.
  4. Skip the "Migrating from Universal Analytics" prompt.

Step 2: Add data stream

  1. Go to Admin, click "Data Streams", and click web.
  2. Add URL and give your new stream a name. Example: Insert URL data stream.
  3. Continue with default settings.
  4. Create stream.
  5. Copy your new measurement ID, e.g., G-XXXXXXXXXX.

Step 3: Add GA4 tags to your Shopify store

  1. Install the Google channel.
  2. Go to Online Store → Preferences.
  3. Click "Manage Pixel here" in the GA section.
  4. Click "Get Started" in "Connect a GA property".
  5. Select the property with the measurement ID from step 2.

Step 4 (optional): Connect your GA4 property to your Google Ads.

This will tell you what orders are from your Google Ads in your GA4 data.

  1. Go to GA4 Admin → "Google Ads Links" in the property column.
  2. Click on the Link button.
  3. "Choose Google Ads Accounts"
  4. Select your Google Ads account.
  5. Continue with default settings and submit.

Bonus: Don't import conversions in Google Ads.

Instead, use Google Ads' own tracking scripts. This is more accurate because GA4 will only send a conversion to Google Ads if it contains the right UTM parameters.

But Google Ads' own tracking can track without UTM parameters.

That's it! You're all set with Google Analytics 4 for your Shopify store.
