BREAKING: Google Analytics 4 is here for Shopify 🤩
All native. 100% plug-and-play. No coding. It's so easy! I literally just set it up.
Here's how to do it, step-by-step (it's easy).
Step 1: Create a Google Analytics 4 property.
- Open GA, go to Admin and click "Create Property"
- Give your new property a name. Example:Â Insert URLÂ - GA4
- Next, fill out info, create.
- Skip the "Migrating from Universal Analytics" prompt.
Step 2: Add data stream
- Go to Admin, click "Data Streams", and click web.
- Add URL and give your new stream a name. Example:Â Insert URLÂ data stream.
- Continue with default settings.
- Create stream.
- Copy your new measurement ID, e.g., G-XXXXXXXXXX.
Step 3: Add GA4 tags to your Shopify store
- Install the Google channel.
- Go to Online Store → Preferences.
- Click "Manage Pixel here" in the GA section.
- Click "Get Started" in "Connect a GA property".
- Select the property with the measurement ID from step 2.
Step 4 (optional): Connect your GA4 property to your Google Ads.
This will tell you what orders are from your Google Ads in your GA4 data.
- Go to GA4 Admin → "Google Ads Links" in the property column.
- Click on the Link button.
- "Choose Google Ads Accounts"
- Select your Google Ads account.
- Continue with default settings and submit.
Bonus: Don't import conversions in Google Ads.
Instead, use Google Ads' own tracking scripts. This is more accurate because GA4 will only send a conversion to Google Ads if it contains the right UTM parameters.
But Google Ads' own tracking can track without UTM parameters.
That's it! You're all set with Google Analytics 4 for your Shopify store.
